Slamd64 is the first unofficial port of Slackware to the x86 64 architecture that is compiled to work on both AMD64 and EM64T. The port started in January 2005 with public releases starting a few months later.

Some essential 32 bit libraries are included to enable Slackware packages or 3rd-party 32 bit software to run.
Support for compiling 32 bit binaries has been taken out as of June 14th, 2006.

Slamd64 was created and is maintained by Fred Emmott who is currently studying computer science at the University of Warwick, England.

A sometimes lively discussion can be found on #slamd64 on irc.freenode.net where Fred is known as fred87.
