Rxart is a GNU/Linux distribution developed in Argentina and based on Debian. Its origin dates back to 1999, when the founder and CEO of Rxart, Gabriel Ortiz, decides to develop a friendly and easy-to-use distribution intended mainly for hardware assemblers. This is the way that Rxart SRL company commenced the development. They started its marketing in Argentina, basically in the most important wholesaler channels.

Developed on the base of Debian Sarge and containing significant proprietary software, Rxart was the best selling Spanish language GNU/Linux distribution in Latin America, having reached 350,000 units in 2005. The developers have contacts with Sun Microsystems, IBM, Intel, AMD, Elitegroup Computer Systems/PCChips, SmartLink and BioStar, among other corporations. Today the company is on expansion, taking markets in Peru, Chile, Uruguay and recently entering Mexico and Venezuela.

The company claims that their department of engineering and their research laboratories place Rxart as a leading company in the development of the GNU/Linux platform. In 2004, they were the only Argentine software company to be granted an exemption of gross income taxes by the city of Buenos Aires. In 2005 they were selected among 25 companies that achieved the benefits of the Argentine Law of Software.
