History

LXer Linux News is a website, founded by webmaster Dave Whitinger, which publishes continuous up-to-the-minute news on the world of GNU/Linux, the various BSD's, & Open Source/Free Software. Dave Whitinger also co-founded one of the original Linux community news sites back in the 1990s. This explains, in part, why so many long-time Linux community members have found their way to the site. Editor-in-Chief Don Parris heads up an experienced crew of [http://lxer.com/team.php editors and writers]. Bob Whitinger, Dave Whitinger's father, has recently assumed the position of publisher, a position previously held by his son.

While anyone can submit news stories, LXer has many stories automatically placed in their queue through their immense aggregation of news sources. LXer is an excellent-quality, editorially independent news website without overwhelming ads and no pop-ups. They recently re-designed the look of the website and somehow made what was already good, a lot better.

LXer also keeps track of LUG meetings, corporations switching promises, hardware compatibility, pre-installation and much more. Like most sites they have a number of forums that provide a place for moderated discussion about news relating to LXer itself and Free and Open Source software issues. The quality of the discussions are second to none, with the threads from the articles being as informative is the articles themselves.
