DigiKam is an advanced but easy to use digital photo management application for the KDE desktop environment. It supports all major image formats, and can organize collections of photographs in directory-based albums, by date, or with tags. You can also add comments and a rating to your images, search through them and save your searches as 'smart folders'. You can can export your albums to Flickr , burn them on CD, create a web gallery and more.

DigiKam offers image enhancement tools through its KIPI (KDE Image Plugins Interface) framework and its own plugins, like red-eye removal, color management, image filters, or special effects. It has a Camera import function which allows for previewing, downloading and/or deleting images. Basic auto-transformations can be deployed on the fly during pictures downloading.

New features in the current 0.9.0 release (released Dec 18, 2006) are a [http://www.digikam.org/?q=node/104 GPS locator] and [http://www.digikam.org/?q=node/136 synchronisation], [http://www.digikam.org/?q=node/137 iPod Photo upload support], an [http://www.digikam.org/?q=node/163 advanced metadata editor], better support for raw pictures (using dcraw included in digikam) and many new KIPI (KDE Image Plugins Interface) plugins.
